FÆLLEDPARKEN SKATEPARK ROOF

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Copenhagen, Denmark’s largest and most trafficked skatepark is Faelledparken Skatepark located in the city center. It a world-class facility and open 24/7/365. The crown jewel of the park is the Snakerun Bowl, named for the way it S-curves and snakes around the north perimeter of the park.

Due to the amount of yearly rainfall in the city, it is proposed to design and build a roof structure over this section of the park. It will keep the snakerun skateable in poor weather, and create much needed shade in the summertime.

The design of the faceted roof is inspired by a snake’s movement and its patterned skin.

*NOTE: No two trusses are alike in this project which led me to create two Grasshopper definitions in order to iterate the design with parametric control. The first definition allows the creation of a truss by selecting a single 4-side planar surface. The second will create a truss from a segmented 1-degree polyline and a corresponding vertical line for the bottom chord offset (-Z direction).
